Let’s Hope more Cities Across America Ban the Sale of Puppies in Pet stores

Puppy Mills Need To Be Banned Everywhere

The only way to seriously damage the viability of a puppy mill is to take away one of its major resources – pet stores. Puppy mills have been the bane of good breeders and responsible pet owners for a very long time. The Puppy Mill Project wants to see the banning of all commercially bred puppies to pet stores.  45 Communities in North America have already banned the sale of commercially bred puppies in pet stores.

If Chicago follows suit, they will be the first in the Midwest. That’s good news because the bulk of puppy mill puppies come from the Midwest. They are considered the pipeline of the puppy mill industry. People who buy a puppy from a pet store pay a very high price. Too many times people buy a puppy from a pet store on impulse. Most of the puppies are inbred, haven’t been properly cared for and have health and behavioral issues.
People fall in love with these puppies and then realize that they can’t take care of them and they end up in a shelter. It’s a vicious cycle that needs to be stopped. It isn’t fair on the puppies, the new owners of the shelters. Too many animals end up in shelters that have no way of taking care of them and have to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize them. It’s so irresponsible and anyone who can treat an animal in this way needs the book thrown at them. Join our magazine: http://absolutelydogsmagazine.com/subscribe/
The only way to stop puppy mills is for people to stop buying animals from pet stores or over the internet. Responsible breeders won’t sell their puppies to just anyone. They really care about where their puppies go and want to make sure they will have a good life. If you want a dog for life, then never buy from a pet store or someone selling puppies out of the back of a car. Do your homework, visit the breeder and ask to see the conditions that their dogs live in. This way you will know if you can trust that your puppy will be healthy and happy when you take them home.

Dogs Just Love To Do Silly Things!

Why you can’t get mad with your dog after they leave the scene of the crime

We can learn a lot from dogs about how to have fun and live in the moment. Why do we love them so much? Probably because they faithful, loyal, protective, have loads of personality and can make us laugh at their silly antics. Dogs are highly social animals that are inquisitive and love to explore. It is that inquisitive nature that often gets them into trouble. If they get bored or lonely they will find their own fun.

What they think of as fun or entertaining may not always be to our liking, but what are you going to do? You can’t get mad once it’s done now can you? They don’t really understand that they are in trouble once they leave the scene. This is one of the worst mistakes that owners make when it comes to correcting their dog’s behavior. http://absolutelydogsmagazine.com/subscribe/

Dog’s don’t understand why you are mad with them, unless you catch them in the act of doing something they shouldn’t. If you punish them when you find a chewed up pair of shoes or a hole dug in the yard you run the risk of damaging your relationship. The best cure is prevention and there are many things that you can do to minimize the risk of having items destroyed. https://www.facebook.com/absolutelydogs?ref=hl

1.    Put all items that belong to you out of reach
2.    When they go to take something they shouldn’t, say ‘No’ in a firm voice and replace it with one of their toys
3.    Confine them to an area of the house they can’t damage when you are out
4.    Exercise them regularly and play with them
5.    Change out their toys every couple of weeks, so they don’t get bored
By following a few simple rules, you should avoid them getting into things they shouldn’t. When they have plenty of mental stimulation they won’t go looking for destructive ways to entertain themselves. Does Your Dog Deserve A Medal?

Dog’s are simply amazing and have been helping humans for centuries

There’s no denying that some dogs are just born into greatness. They have an immense desire to protect and serve the ones they love. The world is full of super dogs that work harder than the average person. Unless they are sick, they won’t grumble or groan when it’s time to go to work. They are the first ones at the door ready to greet you when you get home and will give you all the attention you need.

A few years ago there was an amazing story of a dog named Lada. Why is Lada such a hero, because she saved the life of a baby! The baby’s mother had taken Lada and her infant son to a local park in Russia to meet up with some friends. After having quite a few drinks with her friends the baby’s mother went home leaving the baby and the dog behind. When she awoke the next morning she realized her baby was missing http://absolutelydogsmagazine.com/subscribe/

Initially she thought the baby had been abducted, but her father suspected what his daughter had done and went to the park. He found his grandson in his pram unharmed and Lada standing guard over him. Lada stayed with the baby all night long so no harm would come to him. The baby was wet and hungry, but otherwise in good health. The baby was placed in the care of his grandmother and Lada visits regularly. https://www.facebook.com/absolutelydogs?ref=hl

This is just one story of an amazing dog. There are many more dogs like this around the world. There are dogs in the armed forces that perform dangerous tasks everyday and are loyal to their soldiers. There are service dogs that help the disabled and then there are those dogs that just love to visit sick kids and spread joy. You’d have to agree that dogs are one of the most amazing species on the planet. Have you got a story you would like to share? Absolutely Dogs Magazine would love to hear about it.

Is Your Dog Smarter Than You Think?

Some Dogs Just Know What Buttons To Push And Make You Give Up

The smartest dogs are really good at acting dumb! By all accounts they just don’t seem to get what it is you want from them! They know they should go to the right place to potty, stay off the furniture and not bark at every noise, but they just can’t help themselves… or can they?

What makes the difference between one dog that is a dream to train and another that likes to do every naughty thing in the book? Personality and learned behaviors. Just like a child a dog learns what works and what doesn't. Unlike humans who have life and busy schedules to contend with, dogs only have their pack to observe and learn from.  http://absolutelydogsmagazine.com/subscribe

Some dogs need lots of mental stimulation, whilst others are happy to lounge around all day and watch the world roll by. Every dog is unique and what works for one dog, won’t necessarily work for another. Sometimes you have to use several different training techniques until you find the one that is right for your dog. For more great tips:

In most cases, it’s not that the dog can’t be trained; it’s just that you haven’t found the right combination yet or you haven’t given it enough time. It takes 2 to 4 weeks to break an old behavior, so if you are expecting things to change overnight or in a couple of days, then you are not being fair to your dog. Unless your dog has a brain injury or medical condition that stops them from learning, chances are they are smarter than you think. If you want to win, you have to stay one step ahead of them.
